Cannot Select True Color Setting with 1024 X 768 Resolution (228090)

SYMPTOMS

When you change the Colors setting to True Color on the Settings tab in Display properties, the Screen Area setting may be changed to 800 X 600. If you change the Screen Area setting back to 1024 X 768, the Colors setting may be changed to High Color.

CAUSE

These settings are determined by the amount of memory on your video adapter. If you manually set the color palette and resolution beyond the adapter's physical memory address range for these combinations, Windows automatically sets them to a configuration that the adapter supports.

This behavior can also be caused by limitations of your monitor.

RESOLUTION

Upgrading your video adapter or monitor may allow you to use higher resolution and color palette settings.
