Xircom CE2PS Network Adapter Does Not Work After Restarting a Portable Computer (227752)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
This article was previously published under Q227752 SYMPTOMS
When you completely shut down and then restart a portable computer, the Xircom CE2PS network adapter may not start after the reboot.
CAUSE
On some computers, the graphical startup screen may cause the PCI controller or the Xircom adapter to be unable to deliver attribute data.
RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior, use any of the following methods:
- After you restart the portable computer, remove the Xircom adapter, wait a
few seconds, and then re-insert the adapter. The card and its driver then start.
- Edit the Boot.ini file in the root folder of drive C to include the /NOGUIBOOT option. This option prevents the graphical startup screen from being displayed.
Sample boot.ini file:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect /NOGUIBOOT
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
