PPT2000: Presentation Timing in Slide Sorter Different Than Total Time of Slides (226575)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2000

This article was previously published under Q226575

SYMPTOMS

After you have rehearsed the timings for your entire Microsoft PowerPoint slide show, you receive a message similar to the following

Microsoft PowerPoint

The total time for the slide show was n seconds. Do you want to record the new slide timings and use them when you view the slide show?

where n is the total playing time of the presentation.

If you compare the total playing time listed here to the sum of all of the times listed in slide sorter view, the two values may differ by several seconds.

CAUSE

This difference occurs because the minimum time increment in PowerPoint is one second. When you change the slide while rehearsing timings, the change is immediately registered in the Rehearse Timings window. However, PowerPoint rounds this number to the next whole second in the timing indications listed in the slide sorter window.

Therefore, you may notice a difference between the two values described in the "Symptoms" section of this article. This difference can be up to one second per slide in your presentation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
