OLE Link Does Not Work After Upgrade from Windows 95 to Windows 2000 (226443)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade your computer from Microsoft Windows 95 to Windows 2000, the OLE object links may no longer work.

After you update a linked object in Windows 2000 and you open a file that contains the OLE link that was created in Windows 95, no error message appears to indicate that the link is broken. If you examine the link properties, you find that the path points to the Windows 95 location, not the updated Windows 2000 location.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because file locations change during an upgrade from Windows 95 to Windows 2000, which can affect OLE links and the documents that contain them.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.
