SYMPTOMS

When you save a Word document formatted as multiple columns as a Web page (on the File menu, click Save as Web Page), when you view your Web page in a Web browser, the column format is lost.

NOTE: To format your Word document as multiple columns, click Columns on the Format menu.

CAUSE

This functionality is by design in Microsoft Word 2000. A document that is formatted as multiple columns is converted to a single-column format when you save the document as a Web page.

WORKAROUND

To retain the appearance of multiple columns in a Web page, create the Web page by using a table.
