ERROR MESSAGE
When you attempt to import a digital ID certificate, you may receive the following error message:
Corrupted certificate files; certificate importing failed.
An error has occurred. Unable to import certificate.
An error occurred while trying to import security information.
NOTE: Microsoft Office 2000 has built-in functionality that allows you to get more information about difficult-to-troubleshoot alerts or error messages. If you want to enable this functionality for this and other error messages in Microsoft Office 2000, please download the Microsoft Office 2000 Customizable Alerts file from the Microsoft Office Update Web site at the following address:

WHAT TO TRY
Install Internet Explorer 5
If you installed Office 2000 or Outlook 2000, and chose to not upgrade to
Internet Explorer 5, you may encounter any of the above errors when
importing a digital certificate. To install Internet Explorer 5, follow these steps:
- Quit all programs.
- Open Windows Explorer, and on your Office 2000 CD1, navigate to the \IE5\EN folder, where EN is your language version.
- Double-click Ie5setup.exe to begin Setup.

Replace the Damaged Certificate File
If you are already using Internet Explorer 5, the likely cause
of this problem is a damaged Certificate file. To resolve this
problem, obtain a new certificate from an authorized, certificate-issuing
