SYMPTOMS

Your Lexmark Optra Color 40 printer may not be detected and installed automatically by Windows 2000. Instead, the Add Printer Wizard may start so that you can choose a compatible printer driver.

CAUSE

There is no PCL5 driver support for this printer in Windows 2000. Windows 2000 supports this printer with a PostScript 2 driver only.

RESOLUTION

To use this printer, click Lexmark in the Manufacturers box in the Add Printer Wizard. In the Printers box, click Lexmark Optra Color 40 PS. This installs the printer using PostScript drivers.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
