SYMPTOMS

When you install Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) logging is automatically enabled and it cannot be disabled.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT Server version 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 6.

By design, after you install the fix, it does not matter if logging is enabled or disabled. DHCP will still create the DhcpSrvLog files. However, with logging disabled, they will not grow in size.
