Previously Created Share Is Removed When Search Catalog Has the Same Name (222530)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Site Server 3.0

This article was previously published under Q222530

SYMPTOMS

When a Windows NT file share for a physical directory (for example, if "C:\test" is shared through Explorer as share "test") is created and then a Search catalog is created with the same name as the existing file share, the original share will point to a different physical directory.

For example, following the creation of the Search catalog, the new location for the Windows NT file share "test" will change from the original physical path to C:\Microsoft Site Server\Data\Search\Projects\test<or project name>\Search\Drop."

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do not create a Search catalog with the same name as an existing file share.
