WD2000: Error Importing Adobe Illustrator 8.0 EPS Graphic with a Color Preview (220404)

SYMPTOMS

When you insert an Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) graphic that was created with Adobe Illustrator version 8.0, the following error message may appear:
An error occurred while importing this file. <path>\<Filename>.

CAUSE

The Encapsulated PostScript Filter supplied with Office cannot convert these EPS graphics if they contain a color preview (screen representation).

WORKAROUND

Remove the color preview from the EPS file created with Adobe Illustrator. EPS files that contain a monochrome preview or no preview can be inserted into a Word document without an error.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
