The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q220382 SYMPTOMS
When you add a bullet to a paragraph or paragraphs (on the Tools menu, click Bullets and Numbering and then click the Bulleted tab), and the following conditions are all true:
- The paragraph(s) immediately preceding the paragraph or paragraphs to which you are applying the bullet are already bulleted.
- You choose the same bullet that is being used on the preceding paragraph(s).
- You customize that bullet.
The bullets on the preceding paragraphs change to match the custom bullet you applied to the selected paragraph.
CAUSE
This behavior is by design. If you choose the same bullet used for immediately preceding paragraphs and then customize that bullet, the bullet used for all the immediately preceding bulleted paragraphs becomes the customized bullet.
NOTE: This behavior has changed from Word 97 behavior.
