WD2000: EMBED Field Formatting Switch Is Lost After You Save as Web Page (220268)

SYMPTOMS

After you add a formatting switch to the field code of an embedded object and then save the file as a Web page (on the File menu, click Save as Web Page), the switch is removed from the EMBED field when you reopen the Web page document.

WORKAROUND

If the switches must be preserved, save a copy of the file in a different file format from HTML, such as Word Document (*.doc).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Switches can be inserted into the EMBED field manually in the HTML document, and they work correctly during the current editing session in Microsoft Word, but they are lost if the document is saved and reopened.
