WD2000: Language ID Changes When Using Click and Type Feature (220183)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q220183 SYMPTOMS
When you use the Click and Type feature to move to a new location in a document, your Language ID may be reset back to English (U.S.) from the language you were previously typing in.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the Normal style language is set to English (U.S.) and you have a mixture of text formatted in English (U.S.) and a different language.
For example, your Normal style is formatted in English (U.S.) and you have text typed with this formatting in the document. Following the English (U.S.) formatted text, you have additional text formatted in a different language--for example, French (France). When you double-click in a blank area of your document (Click and Type) and type text, the text is formatted in English (U.S.).
NOTE: This problem does not seem to occur when your Normal style is formatted as English (U.S.) and all of the text in your document is formatted in a language other than English (U.S.).
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, you must manually change the paragraph language to the language you want to type in. To do this, use the following steps:
- Select the paragraph in which you want to change the language formatting.
- On the Tools menu, point to Language and click Set Language.
- Click the language you want and then click OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
