This article was previously published under Q218723

SYMPTOMS

When you work in a publication, text contained in a text frame with drop cap formatting may shift unexpectedly. The text next to the drop cap may shift slightly to the right, as much as four character spaces.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when another object, such as a text box or a graphic, overlaps a text box that contains a drop cap, and the text in the text frame is set to wrap.

WORKAROUND

If you turn off the text wrapping option for the affected text box, the text will no longer shift. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click once on the text frame that contains the drop cap.
  2. On the Format menu, click Text frame properties.
  3. In the Text frame properties dialog box, click to clear the Wrap text around objects option.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
