PUB2000: Save as Postscript Outputs Only One Postcard per Page (218701)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 2000

This article was previously published under Q218701

SYMPTOMS

When you save a postcard publication in Microsoft Publisher as a Postscript file, you do not have the option to output 4 postcards per sheet. The resulting file will be saved with the default one per page.

CAUSE

The Save as Postscript option in Publisher does not allow 4 postcards per page, by default, and as a result only outputs one.

WORKAROUND

To workaround this problem, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, Click Print Setup, set the default printer to the same Postscript printer of the service bureau (or whatever printer the you choose when using the Save as Postscript option.)
  2. On the File menu, Click Print.
  3. Click Page Options, select Print multiple copies per sheet. Click OK
  4. On the File menu, click Print, select Print To File and Click Print. Save the file as a PRN file.

NOTE: Once this step is completed you can discard the PRN file that is created. This step is used solely to change the default printer options to allow the specified printer to print multiple copies per page.
  5. On the File menu, Click Save As, Select Postscript (*.ps) in the Save as Type list.
  6. Click Save.
  7. You can now take this file to a Service Bureau.

NOTE: This correctly sets the Publication to output 4 postcards per page.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
