Programs May Not Automatically Start When Starting Windows (218597)

SYMPTOMS

When you start your computer, some programs may not start automatically, and a folder named Program may open on the desktop.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if a program is started from the following registry key, the program is located in the Program Files folder, and there is a file named Program, with no file extension, in the root folder of the boot disk:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, rename or delete the Program file in the root folder of the boot disk, or move the file to a different location on the hard disk.
