PPT2000: Cannot Check the Spelling of Certain English Dialects (218537)

SYMPTOMS

If you set the language for a block of text to certain dialects of English, and you then check the spelling of the text, you may receive the following error message
PowerPoint couldn't find the spelling for English (dialect)
where dialect is the regional version of the English language for which you are trying to check the spelling.

When you click OK, you receive the following message:
The spelling check is complete.
This message repeats continuously after the first time you try to check spelling using the new language setting.

CAUSE

PowerPoint can only check the spelling of the following English dialects, which have spelling checker dictionaries included with Office 2000:
  • Australia
  • Canada
  • U.K.
  • U.S.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
