CAUSE
This error message can occur when no valid TEMP folder is defined in Windows, or when the TEMP folder has been deleted.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, define a valid TEMP folder, or verify that one already exists. Then verify that the TEMP folder is referenced correctly in the Autoexec.bat file.
NOTE: The following steps assume that Microsoft Windows 98 is installed in the C:\Windows folder.
Create a Valid Temp Folder- Click Start, and then click Run.
- Type C:\Windows in the Open box, and then click OK.
- When Windows Explorer opens, verify that there is no subfolder named TEMP.
- Click File, point to New, and then click Folder.
- Type TEMP and then press ENTER.
Verify That the Temp Folder Is Referenced Correctly- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type msconfig and then click OK.
- In the System Configuration Utility window, click the Autoexec.bat tab.
- Click to select the entry that begins SET TEMP = C:\path.
- If the entry is SET TEMP=C:\WINDOWS\TEMP, click OK.
- If the entry reads anything else, click Modify, and then change the entry so that it reads SET TEMP=C:\WINDOWS\TEMP.
- If the entry does not exist, click New, type SET TEMP=C:\WINDOWS\TEMP, and then press ENTER.
- Click OK, and then restart your computer when you are prompted.
