OL2000: Security Settings Not Available with Word as E-mail Editor (218373)

SYMPTOMS

When you use a digital certificate in Outlook and have Microsoft Word set as your e-mail editor, the Security tab is not available to set security options on a per-message basis.

RESOLUTION

There are two possible resolutions to this issue:
  • Turn on security options for all messages and then turn off after sending.
  • Do not use Word as your e-mail editor when sending secure or encrypted messages.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

To turn on security for all messages, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click Security.
  2. In Secure E-mail, set the desired security options, and click OK.
  3. Create and send the secure message and then return to the Security page to turn off security
