SYMPTOMS

When you click New Fax Message, on the Actions menu, a regular e-mail message is opened rather than a fax message. This happens after you remove Symantec Fax as one of your mail accounts.

RESOLUTION

Turn on the Symantec Fax Starter Edition Extension add-in and restart Outlook.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

When you remove the Symantec Fax Starter Edition from your list of mail accounts, you turn off the Symantec Fax Starter Edition Extension. To restore the fax functionality in Outlook, turn on the extension in the Add-in Manager and restart Outlook.

Turn On the Symantec Fax Starter Edition Extension

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Other tab, click Advanced Options, and click Add-in Manager.
  3. Click to select the Symantec Fax Starter Edition Extension check box, and then click OK, OK, and OK to close.
  4. Quit and restart Outlook.
You can now send faxes by clicking New Fax Message on the Actions menu. All your previous settings will be intact.
