This article was previously published under Q218282 SYMPTOMS
If you export a certificate and specify the file format of ".epf", Outlook attempts to use the format ".pfx" instead. The result is an unsuccessful export.
WORKAROUND
Use the following steps to correctly export a certificate:
- Start Outlook with a version V1 certificate installed.
- On the Tools menu, click Options, and then on the Security tab, click Import/Export digital ID.
- Click to select Export, and then click Select.
- In Select Certificate, click to select a certificate to export, and then click OK.
- Click Browse, and in the Locate Security Profile dialog box, type the file name you want to save, and set the File of type to Exchange Security (*.epf). Click Open, and then click OK.
NOTE: You must have configured a V1 Exchange certificate in order to have a certificate to export with the .epf extension. Exchange certificates use the Exchange Security (*.ecf) format while Internet certificates use the Internet Security (*.pfx,*.p12) file formats.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
