OL2000: Cannot Edit Some Stationery Files (218239)

SYMPTOMS

If you attempt to use the Stationery Picker to edit or remove a stationery file that was installed "on demand", you may find that the Edit and Remove buttons are not available. To access the Stationery Picker, on the Tools menu, click Options and on the Mail Format tab, click Stationery Picker.

CAUSE

The selected stationery was installed on demand by Microsoft Office Setup.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Stationery that is installed on demand cannot be modified by Outlook. This is not a behavior that can be changed; if you attempt to modify the files outside of Outlook, they may be treated as corrupt and the program may attempt to repair them, under some circumstances.
