SBS: Cannot Resume Setup If it Is Canceled After Installing SP4 (218082)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5
This article was previously published under Q218082 SYMPTOMS
During the BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS) Setup process, Setup applies Service Pack 4 (SP4). After SP4 is applied, the server reboots and displays the continuation page for SBS Setup. If you cancel Setup at this point and then try to start Setup again by clicking Start, pointing to Programs, pointing to Startup, and then clicking Setup, Setup does not resume.
CAUSE
This is caused by a problem with Explorer.exe. The link is intentionally removed when the server is rebooted, but the listing on the Start menu is not refreshed immediately.
RESOLUTION
You should not cancel Setup to install third-party drivers or for any other reason. You may be able to resume Setup by running Setup.exe from the root folder of SBS CD-ROM 1 or by clicking Small Business Server Setup on the screen that appears automatically when you insert CD-ROM 1 in the CD-ROM drive.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
You can make any necessary modifications to your hardware configuration in the "Small Business Server Hardware Confirmation" screen that is displayed during SBS Setup.
