Setup Does Not Prompt User to Remove Disk 3 and Reboot (218064)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5

This article was previously published under Q218064

SYMPTOMS

During the installation of BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS), Setup copies files in Text mode and automatically reboots without first prompting you to remove Setup disk 3. When the computer restarts, you receive the following error message:
OS load in progress...

BOOT: Couldn't find NTLDR
Please insert another disk

CAUSE

Setup does not prompt you to remove Setup disk 3 before the reboot. Setup disk 3 is not bootable.

RESOLUTION

Remove Setup disk 3 and restart the computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

In the [Unattend] section of the answer file (Winnit.sif) that is used for automating SBS Setup, "NoWaitAfterTextMode=1" is specified, which indicates that Setup should automatically reboot into GUI-mode Setup after Text mode is complete. Modifying this value to "0" has no effect because it is ignored when "OemPreinstall=No" or is not present, which is the case in SBS 4.5.
