When you are trying to begin a Web Discussion from the Microsoft Office Server Extensions Start Page, the following error message may appear:
JavaScript Alert:
This browser type is not supported.
CAUSE
This occurs if the following conditions are true: - You go to the Microsoft Office Server Extensions Start Page with your Web browser, type a Web address in the Web Discussions box, and click Go.

- One of the following conditions is true:
- You are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 that ships with America OnLine (AOL). -or-
- You are using Netscape Navigator on the Macintosh.
RESOLUTIONMicrosoft Internet Explorer 4.0, AOL Edition
To resolve the issue with Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 that ships with AOL, the Browscap.ini file needs to be updated on the Office Server Extended Web server. The file can be updated by downloading the updated version from cyScape's Web site. To update this file, use the following steps: - On the Office Server Extended Web server, go to the following Web site:
- After you unzip the files, be sure to read the file header of Browscap.ini for important information.
- Replace the Browscap.ini file in the <%SYSTEMROOT%>\system32\inetsrv\ folder (where <%SYSTEMROOT%> is the folder where the operating system is installed) with the downloaded copy of Browscap.ini.
NOTE: This folder is on the Office Extended Web server. - Restart the Office Server Extended Web server.
Netscape Navigator for the Macintosh
Netscape Navigator for the Macintosh is not a supported browser for Web Discussions. Web Discussions on the Macintosh are only possible with Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.5 for Macintosh.
