FIX: Running msdev /useenv Once Causes Environment To Be Used Permanently (216854)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Visual Studio, Enterprise Edition 6.0
  • Microsoft Visual C++, 32-bit Professional Edition 6.0
  • Microsoft Visual Basic Enterprise Edition for Windows 6.0

This article was previously published under Q216854

SYMPTOMS

Once you run Developer Studio with the /USEENV switch it always uses the environment specified in the Control Panel System applet. Developer Studio does not default back to using the settings specified in the Directories tab under Options and off of the Tools menu. This happens even if you later run Developer Studio without the /USEENV switch.

Developer Studio should use the environment specified in the Directories tab under Options and off of the Tools menu when the /USEENV switch is not specified.

RESOLUTION

Upgrade to the latest Visual Studio service pack.
