OFF98: Error Message When You Start Word or Excel with Outlook 8.1 or 8.2.2 Installed (216514)

When you try to start Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition, you receive the following error message
Unexpected critical error:can't start program
and Word does not start.
When you try to start Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, you receive the following error message:
One of your object libraries (Standard OLE Types(PowerMac)) is missing or damaged. Please install the program again.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the both of the following conditions are true:
- You installed Microsoft Outlook for Macintosh, Exchange Server Edition, version 8.1 or version 8.2.2.
-and-
- You performed a drag-and-drop installation of Microsoft Office 98.
RESOLUTION
To resolve the problem, follow these steps:
- Move the following file to the Trash:
System Folder:Extensions:Microsoft OLE Automation - Start Word.
- Type the appropriate information when you are prompted for your name and organization, and then click OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
