XL2000: Cannot Change Chart to PivotChart (215945)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2000

This article was previously published under Q215945

SYMPTOMS

If you open a workbook created in an earlier version of Microsoft Excel that contains a chart made from a PivotTable, you cannot change that chart to a PivotChart.

CAUSE

Charts made in earlier versions of Excel from PivotTable data are maintained as regular charts, rather than being converted to PivotCharts.

WORKAROUND

The fastest and most reliable way to work around this problem is to create a new PivotChart from the PivotTable report.

To create a new PivotChart, select a cell in the PivotTable and click the Chart tool on the Standard or PivotTable toolbar. Excel will create a PivotChart on a new chart sheet.

MORE INFORMATION

A chart that is not created from PivotTable data will be converted to a PivotChart if you change the data source to a PivotTable. After linking a PivotChart to PivotTable data, you can no longer change the data source.
