SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to crawl PDF files, the gatherer log indicates the following:
Error fetching URL, (IDX_E_DOCUMENT_ABORTED - Document indexing has been aborted.) Error Code: -2147217125

CAUSE

The PDF filter is not multi-threaded; however, the Site Server computer tries to create multiple instances of the filter when multiple PDF files are being filtered at the same time.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply the latest Site Server 3.0 service pack.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Site Server version 3.0. This problem has been corrected in the latest U.S. service pack for Microsoft Site Server version 3.0.
