XL2000: Chart Title In Interactive Web Page Does Not Appear As Expected (215318)

When you create a chart in Microsoft Excel, and you publish the chart as an Interactive Web Page, the title to the chart is replaced with the words "Chart Title."
CAUSE
This behavior can occur when you use a cell reference to create the chart title, as in the following example:
- Start Excel, and then create the following worksheet:
- Select cell A1, and then click Chart Wizard.
- Accept the defaults, and then click Finish.
- In cell A5, type Test Chart.
- Click the chart to select it.
- On the Chart menu, click Chart Options.
- On the Titles tab, in the Chart title box, type Title Here, and then click OK.
- Select Title Here on the chart.
- In the formula bar, type the following equation
and then press ENTER.
Note that "Title Here" is replace with "Test Chart". - On the File menu, click Save as Web Page.
- Click Publish.
- Under Viewing options, click to select the Add interactivity with check box.
- Click to select the Open published web page in browser check box, and then click Publish.
Note that in the Web browser the title has been replaced with "Chart Title".
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, do not use a cell reference for a chart title when you want to publish a chart as a Web page. To make the correct chart title appear on the chart you want in a published Web, use the steps in the following example:
- Start Excel, and then create the following worksheet:
- Select cell A1, and then click Chart Wizard.
- Accept the defaults, and then click Finish.
- Click the chart to select it.
- On the Chart menu, click Chart Options.
- On the Titles tab, in the Chart title box, type Title Here, and then click OK.
- On the File menu, click Save as Web Page.
- Click Publish.
- Under Viewing options, click to select the Add interactivity with check box.
- Click to select the Open published web page in browser check box, and then click Publish.
Note that in the Web browser the chart title appears as expected.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
