XL2000: Cannot Enter High ANSI Characters in Properties Window (215224)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to use a keyboard shortcut to insert a high ANSI (American National Standards Institute) character such as the Greek letter Beta in a box in a Properties window, such as the Name box, the character does not appear.

NOTE: The properties window is normally associated with elements of Microsoft Visual Basic such as the Control tool box.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you do not have NUM LOCK set to on.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, turn the NUM LOCK on. To turn the NUM LOCK on, press the NUM LOCK key. When NUM LOCK is on, an indicator light will illuminate on most keyboards and NUM will appear on the Windows status bar.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
