SUMMARY

Mtssetup.dll (version 1997.11.532.0 of size 622,592 bytes) fixed some known issues relating to Windows 95 and Windows 98 installations that have a large number of registry entries. In particular, Mtssetup.dll addresses the following issues:

When installing Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS) on Windows 95 or Windows 98, the following error occurs:
Error Code = 0x80004005 An unknown error occurred while making MTS specific changes to the system registry.
Followed by this error:
Setup of "Transaction Server Core Components" failed. The specific error code is 0xfee662.
NOTE: The actual number in the previous error message may vary.

This behavior often occurs when installing Personal Web Server on Windows 95 or Windows 98.

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file. To install this updated version of Mtssetup.dll, you must reinstall MTS or Personal Web Server (PWS). To do so, complete the following steps:
  1. Create a temporary directory on the hard disk called C:\Temp.
  2. Copy the MTS or PWS Setup files from the CD or other location that you originally installed it to the C:\temp directory. For example, if you installed MTS or PWS from the Windows 98 CD, copy the files from the following directory to the C:\temp directory you just created:
       \add-ons\PWS\ 
    						
    Or, if you installed from the Windows NT Option Pack, copy the files from the following directory to the C:\temp directory you just created:
       \NTOptPak\En\x86\Win.95\ 
    						
  3. Download the updated Mtssetup.exe, which contains the updated Mtssetup.dll from the Microsoft Download Center (click the above link).
  4. Double-click Mtssetup.exe to extract Mtssetup.dll.
  5. Replace the Mtssetup.dll in the C:\Temp directory with the one that was downloaded in step 3 (which should be version 1997.11.532.0 of size 622,592 bytes).
  6. Run setup.exe from the C:\temp directory and install Microsoft Transaction Server or Personal Web Server.
