The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q214159

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a caption in a Word document, Word applies the Caption style to the current paragraph instead of applying it just to the caption.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because when you insert a caption, Word applies the Caption style to the caption line or the current paragraph containing the insertion point.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use either of the following methods before you insert a caption:
  • Click to select the item that is to be captioned.
  • Move the insertion point to a blank line before you insert the caption.
