XL2000: Excel Cannot Update Links to a Microsoft Access Query (213960)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2000

This article was previously published under Q213960

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 2000, when you create a link to a Microsoft Access query, the query is not updated dynamically. That is, when you change the query in Access, the linked information is not automatically updated in Excel, even if both files are open in memory at the same time.

CAUSE

Excel automatically updates data only in the Access data source (that is, the table that the query is built upon); it does not automatically update the query.

WORKAROUND

To update a link from Excel to an Access query, close the dependent workbook and then re-open it.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
