SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to import a digital ID certificate, you may receive the following error message:

An error has occurred. Unable to import certificate.

-or-

An error occurred while trying to import security information.

You are attempting to import a high-encryption (128 bit) certificate while using a version of Microsoft Internet Explorer earlier than version 5.0.

Run Microsoft Office Setup and upgrade to Internet Explorer to version 5.0.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
