XL2000: Embedded Chart Size Changes When Copied and Pasted (211739)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2000

This article was previously published under Q211739

SYMPTOMS

When you copy and paste an embedded chart object, it appears to be larger or smaller than the original copied chart object.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the zoom percentage is not equal to 100 percent when you paste the chart.

For example, if the Zoom setting is 50 percent when you paste a chart into a worksheet, the size of the chart is reduced by 50 percent. If the Zoom setting is 200 percent when you paste a chart, the size of the chart is increased by 200 percent.

Note that the Zoom setting does not affect objects when you copy them, only when you paste them.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, set the zoom percentage to 100 percent before you paste the chart. To do this, use either of the following methods:
  • In the Zoom box on the Standard toolbar, type or select 100%.

    -or-
  • On the View menu, click Zoom. Under Magnification, click 100% and click OK.
If you already pasted the chart, use either of the following methods to correct the object's size.

Method 1: Resize the Object

To resize the object, select it and then drag a sizing handle until it is the size you want.

Method 2: Repaste the Object

  1. Select the object that is the incorrect size and then press DELETE.
  2. Select the original chart and click Copy on the Edit menu.
  3. In the Zoom box on the Standard toolbar, type or select 100%.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
