This article was previously published under Q211701 SYMPTOMS
When you save a document in Text Only or Text Only with Line Breaks format, all line feeds and line breaks are converted to paragraph marks.
CAUSE
This functionality is by design. Characters that turn into paragraph marks include the following:
- New Line Characters (created by pressing SHIFT+ENTER)
- Text Wrapping Break (on the Insert menu click Break, and then click to select Text Wrapping Break)
- Page Breaks
- Section Breaks
NOTE: These changes can be seen when you open the saved text document again in Microsoft Word.
MORE INFORMATION
In addition to converting all line breaks to paragraph marks, the Text Only with Line Breaks file format inserts a paragraph mark at the end of each line.
