Access Violation Error Message Installing MechCommander (211144)

SYMPTOMS

When you install the Microprose MechCommander program, you may receive an access violation error message in the Cpuid.exe process. However, the installation may finish, and the program may work correctly.

NOTE: By default Dr. Watson generates a message about the program not working, but if you have enabled visual notification in Dr. Watson, you must click OK to close the Dr. Watson dialog box.

CAUSE

The issue can occur because the Cpuid.exe program used by the MechCommander installation program is incompatible with Windows 2000.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact MicroProse to inquire about the availability of a fix for this issue, or ignore this error message during setup.
