XL2000: PivotTable Printout Is Truncated in Internet Explorer (210823)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2000
  • Microsoft Office PivotTable Component 9.0, run time

This article was previously published under Q210823

SYMPTOMS

When you print a page containing a PivotTable in Microsoft Internet Explorer, only about half of the first page may be printed, in which case, the rows and columns are cropped.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when the Microsoft Office PivotTable list is created with the Autofit property set to True.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, either print the PivotTable using Microsoft Excel, or edit the PivotTable object in the HTM page so that it has specific dimensions.

Print Using Microsoft Excel

  1. If you have Excel installed, click the Export to Excel button on the PivotTable toolbar.

Doing this starts Excel and displays the PivotTable list.
  2. In Excel, on the File menu, click Print Preview to ensure that the list previews correctly.
  3. Click Print to print the PivotTable list.
NOTE: Any changes you make to the PivotTable in Excel are not reflected in the PivotTable in Internet Explorer.

Change the Size Properties Using Microsoft FrontPage

If you have FrontPage installed, edit the PivotTable, set the Autofit property to False, and then set the Width and Height properties of the PivotTable. To change these settings, follow these steps:
  1. With the PivotTable displayed in Internet Explorer, on the File menu, click Edit with Microsoft FrontPage.
  2. In FrontPage, click the PivotTable list object.
  3. Click the Property Toolbox button on the PivotTable toolbar.
  4. On the PivotTable Property Toolbox, click Advanced to expand the options.
  5. Click to clear the AutoFit check box.
  6. Change the pixel value for the Height and Width edit boxes.

NOTE: The best Height and Width values depend on your page size and layout. Suitable values for a portrait letter-size page with half-inch margins left, right, top, and bottom are approximately as follows:

    Height: 720
    Width: 540

  7. On the File menu, click Save.
  8. Switch to Internet Explorer. On the View menu, click Refresh to update the page.
NOTE: This method allows you to print the entire page as it is displayed in your browser, but the page may not display all of the data in the PivotTable. You may need to scroll down the PivotTable and print further pages to print all of the data.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
