The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q209947

SYMPTOMS

When you view a Word document saved as a Web page (on the File menu, click Save as Web Page) in Web layout view (on the View menu, click Web Layout), there is no white space between a table and the surrounding text. However, when you view the same document in your Web browser, white space is added between the table and the surrounding text.

CAUSE

When a Web page is viewed in a Web browser, three pixels of white space are added between the table border and the surrounding (wrapped) text. This minimum white space is added by the Web browser. However, this same minimum white space is not added by Web layout view in Word.

WORKAROUND

There is not a workaround for this problem. Changing the table property "Distance from surrounding text" (On the Table menu, click Table Properties. On the Table tab, click Positioning.) has no effect on this problem.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
