PRJ: Error Opening Workgroup Message in E-Mail (209310)

When you open a Microsoft Project workgroup message in your e-mail program, you may receive one of the following error messages. Message 1
An error occurred during initialization.
The attachment contained in the message you are trying to open could not be retrieved successfully.
Message 2
There was a problem opening your e-mail message. You may be out of memory, or a problem may have occurred with your e-mail program.
To increase memory, close programs or windows not necessary to your work.
If you still encounter memory problems, save your work, close all programs, and then quit and restart Microsoft Windows.
CAUSECause 1 (for either Message 1 or Message 2)
These errors occur when you send or open a Microsoft Project workgroup message and the e-mail profile setting "Deliver new mail to the following location" is set to None.

Cause 2 (for Message 1 Only)
The Mail section of the Win.ini file contains the line:
MapiDLL=C:\Windows\System\mapivim.dll
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, use the appropriate method for your situation: Workaround for Cause 1- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Mail or Mail and Fax icon.
- Click the Delivery tab.
- In the Deliver new mail to the following location list, click anything other than None.
- Click OK.
Workaround for Cause 2- Click Start and click Run.
- In the Run dialog box, type Win.ini and
click OK.
- In Win.ini, locate the following line in the [Mail] section:
MapiDLL=C:\Windows\System\mapivim.dll
- Type a semicolon at the beginning of that line so it appears as
follows:
;MapiDLL=C:\Windows\System\mapivim.dll
- On the File menu, click Save.
- On the File menu, click Exit.
- Click Start, and then click Shut Down.
- Click Restart and click OK to restart your computer.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
