Modem May Be Configured to Wait 99 Seconds Between Redial Attempts (207786)

SYMPTOMS

When you connect to the Internet using a modem, your computer may be set to wait 99 seconds between redial attempts.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you type 0 or 1 for the number of seconds to wait between redial attempts. Any entries lower than 2 are invalid and are automatically changed to 99.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, change the number of seconds to wait between redial attempts to 2 or higher.

STATUS

This is issue is resolved in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and later.

To view the current redial attempt setting:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.
  2. On the Connections tab, click Connect to the Internet using a modem to view the redial attempt setting.
