Installing the FrontPage Server Extensions May Take a Long Time to Complete (206928)

SYMPTOMS

When you install the FrontPage Server Extensions to a server with existing content or to many virtual servers, the installation may take a long time to complete (possibly several hours or more).

CAUSE

The amount of time it takes for the Server Extensions to install is directly related to several factors: the speed and number of processors on the computer, the number of virtual servers to be installed, and the total amount of content that will have to be parsed.

RESOLUTION

The best resolution is to install the Server Extensions before the content is put on the server. This will yield a much faster install.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
