WD2001: Spelling Is Not Checked When Language Is Set to English (AUS) (206206)

SYMPTOMS

If you run a spelling and grammar check, and English (AUS) has been selected as the language setting, the spelling and grammar check may be completed without any notification of misspelled words in the document.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the Australian Dictionary file has been removed from the Proofing Tools folder.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, either install the Microsoft Office 2001 Service Release 1 update, or reinstall the missing Australian Dictionary file.

To install download and install the Microsoft Office 2001 Service Release 1 file, browse to the following Microsoft Web site: To install the Australian Dictionary Files, use either of the following methods.

Method 1

Reinstall the spelling checker from the Microsoft Office 2001 Edition CD-ROM. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Run Microsoft Office Installer from the Microsoft Office 2001 Edition CD-ROM.
  2. Click Custom Install, and then click to clear all check boxes and options.
  3. Expand the Office Tools folder, and then click Spelling Checker.
  4. Click Install to install the Spelling Checker.

Method 2

Manually reinstall the Australian Dictionary file.
  1. Start the Microsoft Office 2001 Edition CD-ROM.
  2. Locate and open the Proofing Tools folder.
  3. Drag the Australian Dictionary file into the Proofing Tools folder on your hard disk.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem is fixed in the Microsoft Office 2001 Service Release 1 update.
