SYMPTOMS

When you view Windows Explorer, My Computer, or Device Manager, you may see drive A, even though there may not be a physical drive A connected to your computer.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when the Io.sys file is executed when you start your computer.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

MS-DOS assigns drive A as a bootable drive and to prevent other storage devices from using this drive letter designation. This behavior is consistent with all previous versions of MS-DOS.
