WD2001: Word Does Not Release EPS Graphic When It Is Inserted into a Document (205740)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2001 for Macintosh

This article was previously published under Q205740

SYMPTOMS

When you insert an encapsulated PostScript (EPS) graphic into a Microsoft Word document, you are unable to modify the EPS graphic in another program. When you attempt to modify the EPS graphic, the other program reports that the file is in use, and changes cannot be saved.

This behavior can occur with any EPS graphic that is inserted into a Word document, either as a linked, or an embedded object. The behavior does not occur when you insert other types of graphics.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, save and close your Word document. You can then use your graphics software to edit your EPS graphic.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior does not occur in Word 6 for the Macintosh.
