Microsoft Backup Tool Defaults to Restoring the c:\Mybackup.qic File (205588)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 98
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
This article was previously published under Q205588 SYMPTOMS
When you run the Microsoft Backup tool for the first time and choose to restore a backup file, it defaults to restoring the c:\Mybackup.qic file. If you then try to begin the restoration process, you receive the following error message:
Cannot find the specified file. Make sure the path and file name are correct.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the Mybackup.qic file does not exist. The Mybackup.qic file is the default file name that is used when you back up data to a file. Because of this, Backup defaults to restoring that file.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, do not select the Mybackup.qic file during the restoration process, instead, select your actual backup file on the Restore tab.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
