The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q204278

SYMPTOMS

The following symptom may occur when you use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages and you send a message in Microsoft Outlook Rich Text Format. If the message contains a horizontal line, the horizontal line loses the fill color and may appear with an X inside of a rectangular box or as a black line after the message is sent.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:
  • To insert a horizontal line into your e-mail message, click Line on the drawing toolbar, and then, to change the format of the line, click the available formatting options on the drawing toolbar (such as Line Color).
  • Send your e-mail in Microsoft Word (HTML) Format instead of in Microsoft Outlook Rich Text Format. To do this, point to New Mail Message Using on the Actions menu, and then click Microsoft Word (HTML).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
