WD2000: Only First Item in Picture Bulleted List Is Indented (203893)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to indent a picture bulleted list the same way you indent a bulleted list, only the first item is indented.

NOTE: To indent a bulleted list, place the insertion point at the beginning of the bulleted list and then click Increase Indent on the Formatting toolbar.

CAUSE

This functionality is by design. When you use picture bullets to create a bulleted list, the bulleted item is not the same as a regular bulleted item.

NOTE: In a regular bulleted list, you cannot select the bullet; however, in a picture bulleted list, you can select the bullet. Also, the bullet gallery (on the Format menu, click Bullets and Numbering and then click the Bulleted tab) does not retain the picture bullet you selected.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:

Method 1: Use Increase Indent

Select the picture bulleted list items you want to indent.
On the Formatting toolbar, click Increase Indent.

NOTE: If the Formatting toolbar does not appear, on the View menu, point to Toolbars and then click Formatting.

Method 2: Change the Paragraph Indentation

Select the picture bulleted list items you want to indent.
On the Format menu, click Paragraph.
On the Indents and Spacing tab, change the Indentation box (Left or Right) to the value you want to indent the picture bulleted list.
Click OK.

You can use any graphical image or picture as a bullet. Picture bullets are often used in documents created for the World Wide Web.

You can insert Clip Art or a picture from the Clip Gallery, or you can insert a picture or a scanned photo you import from other programs and locations.

To Add Picture Bullets

Use one of the following methods to insert picture bullets in your bulleted list.

Method 1: Use the Default Picture Bullets

Select the items you want to add picture bullets to.
On the Format menu, click Bullets and Numbering, and then click the Bulleted tab.
Click Picture, and then click the Pictures tab.
Select the picture bullet you want, and then click Insert clip.

Method 2: Use Any Picture as a Picture Bullet

Insert a picture by pointing to Picture on the Insert menu, and then click Clip Art or From File.
Click the picture you want to insert as a picture bullet and then click Insert.

NOTE: The size of the picture you select must be comparable to your text size; so if necessary, resize the picture. To resize a picture bullet, click the picture and then drag a sizing handle until the object is the size you want.
After you insert the picture, press SPACEBAR or TAB, type your text, and then press ENTER. Word automatically inserts another picture bullet.
To finish the list, press ENTER twice.
