BUG: Cannot Drill Down Virtual Dimension with More Than 760 Members (203591)

SYMPTOMS

By design, a virtual dimension is limited to having maximum of 760 members. However, if a virtual dimension is based on a column that has more than 760 rows, OLAP Services fails to report any error.

In such cases, if you just browse the virtual dimension, you will be able to see all the members (more than 760). However, you will not be able to drill down data for this dimension when you browse the cube.

WORKAROUND

Create a regular dimension instead of a virtual dimension if you have more than 760 members.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server OLAP Services version 7.0.
